I have been taking Actos for about 21/2 years for my Type II Diabetes. I also take Glucovance twice a day and insulin at bedtime but still have very high readings. About two or three months ago my doctor decreased my Actos from 30 mg down to 15 mg. As a result of this change and walking daily I had lost 9 pounds at my last visit (about 2 weeks ago, however my sugar readings and Triglycerides were through the roof. Does anyone have a similar history and if so, have you found any medications that have helped?

If your readings are high, you should stay in touch with your doctor until you are regulated. Some doctors won't press you to keep in touch, and you have to do it for yourself. I am having all kinds of problems with Actos - sinus, shortness of breath, water retention, weight gain. I'm going off it pretty soon, and it looks to me like you should be taken off of it too. There are many varieties of medicines and no need for your doctor to keep you on something that is not working...and especially if it is helping you lose weight! My doctor is recommending I try a new drug called metaglip. I will try that next, but we are staying on top of it regularly. If your readings at home stay high, don't wait until your next appointment. Call the doc and get an appointment. If they give you a hard time or want you to wait, just tell them you have a cold and go in anyway! :-)
