I have had anxiety problems and chronic depression since my teen years. I am now 50 years old, and finally began treatment for these problems 2 years ago. I seem to be one of those people who reacts to everything, even in low doses, which is awful. I take Lamictal for depression, and it has helped tons with no side effects. My Dr. has been working with me to find an answer for the anxiety. I have been on 2.5 mg of Abilify for 12 days now and am ready to bail out. I am having the strangest thought patterns! I can't concentrate for a minute. I will do things like wond if I put the aluminum foil in the drawer while I'm flossing my teeth. My family gets a yuck out of watching me walk through the house, floss dangling from my mouth to check on the foil, only to find it in the freezer! This is an exaggeration, but these are the types of thought patterns that are occurring. Speech has been difficult too; lots of mixing up of words. I also can't sleep, even with 30 mg of Restoril. I'm afraid of doing the Judy Garland thing while just trying to get a night's rest!I have already taken my doseof Abilify for the morning, but if things aren't better today, I'm outta here! This whole process is really frustrating. I would love to find something that works for me, but Abilify doesn't seem to be it.
Thank you!

Hi Guy, I!m 60 y.o. and have been having problems for the past 8 or 9 yrs. I bet I!v tried every medication on the market with little or no effect. My doctor put me on abilify twelve wks. ago starting with 2.5mg daily. Like yourself I experienced mild confusion, however, I felt good otherwise. I now take 15mg daily in divided doses and am doing fine. In fact I feel so good I want the doctor to increase it.------------------------------------------I!m not going to lie to you. In the first week or two wend the medicine is being increased you will experienced mild confusion.

I have been on Lamictal for 18 months and it is the best for depression that I have experienced. No sexual or other side effects, except that while you gradually start and then increase the dose you can develop headaches. Be patient and stick with it--after the first month no more problems. I take 100 mg in the morning and 100 mg at noon. This is the most I can take without developing nightmares and sleep interruption, but so far the anti-depressant effect does not wear off like with the SSRI group. However, I still have periodic depressions and cannot increase the dose, so after trying a number of medications I am now on Abilify. I have been taking it for a week and feel very calm and focused. Also I am not hungry so I hope to lose 5 lbs. The first day or two I had muscle aches and sleep issues but now just take Unisom at night and the muscle aches have disappeared. I started with 5 mg for a few days and now have increased to 10mg and hope I can tolerate it.

When you say (above) that you are taking 2.5 mg daily is that 1/4 of a 10 mg pill? I didn't know it came that small. Or do you mean 2.5 grams daily?
