I took my first dose of 35mg Actonel this past Saturday morning. I had almost nothing in the way of a reaction the first day. However, the next day I thought I had the flu. I had body aches everywhere, particularly in the neck (like a stiff neck), back & legs and headache. I went from feeling feverish to freezing. The overall general feeling of achey bones. I took Advil all day to keep me going. Finally I gave in to it and slept for 9 straight hours, which is about 3 hours longer than I normally do. I am really concerned about taking this medication again next week if I can expect the same reaction every time. Can anyone else tell me if your body eventually becomes accustom to the drug? I hope P & G reads these comments.

I had the exact same reaction to 35 mg. weekly. ALl over body aches, night sweats, chills. It subsided at the end of the week and then on taking the second dose, it got worse and is continuing up to 4 days after taking it. I decided not take anymore and will contact my gynecologist. I am now conviced it is from the medication. I'm wondering if the 5mg. daily dose would produce the same effects. I doubt if the doctors are even aware that it can have this effect on some patients.

Hello, a desk-nurse commented to me, when prescribing..."you have to give your body a chance to get-used-to it." Hmmm...."should" we be taking something that is that un-natural? Reading the comments, one "does" see quite a few of the same "problems" ...therefore...since they are not "genetically-related" unless by accident (or a nice relative has informed another, of this site) we "should" be worried. We have the problems from taking this drug...on a short-term "Try-it" (asked the desk-nurse for only "one" month's supply..as I was "not" going to invest in any more...that was the "least," she said, that I could get. (hmmmm.....strange). Think we "should keep-an-eye-on" new "alerts" and search for new "alerts" in all areas: Pharmacology and chats, etc. Great site here. C.

I am beginning my third month on Actonel. I have also had neck pain and headaches. My thighs, hands and knees also ache. In general I feel lousy. One doctor told me that Actonel does not cause headaches, but I know that is not true. I have also experienced dizzyness and fever that lasted only a short while. I can only hope that these side effects will diminsh after awhile. I only wish that my OBGYN over the years had thought enough to test me for osteoporosis since I am caucasion, thin with a small bone structure. I have always been active, but must abmit that I did not know how important calcium was for my overall health. I feel that my doctors should have been counseling me way before the age of 55. So much for the medical profession. I now have my 18-year old daughter taking 1,000mil of calcium a day so she will remain healthy.
