| I started taking Benicar about two months ago. Within the last month, I have been having a weird heartburn/acid reflux thing going. I also experienced some back pain and dizziness. The dizziness went away after a while. I am now in the process of trying to figure out if the Benicar is responsible for my heartburn problem. I'm 37, and I'm not the type that likes to take medicine. I thought that I might be overreacting. I am beginning to feel more confident that Benicar is responsible for my symptoms. This message board has been great. It is good to know that this is not all in my mind. I also got very sick for about two weeks with flu like symptoms (slight fever, headache, dizziness, muscle aches, but NO congestion, running nose). Not sure what I had then, but I don't get sick very often (once every two years and nothing like that). My doctor did not think that it was the result of Benicar. I'm now thinking about finding a new doctor. My trust in medicine is WAY down.This is the first time I have ever been on any type of medicine for a long period of time, and I have never felt worse. By the way, it did do a great job of lowering my BP. | |||

| I started taking Benicar a couple weeks ago for my blood pressure. Until today I was quite happy with the results and thought everything was going well. Today the left side of my face started swelling and before long I looked like a squirrel storing nuts for the winter! I called my doctor and he told me he did not feel it was the Benicar; he admitted to having no idea. A couple minutes later he called back and told me he looked up this medication in his medical journal and indeed it CAN cause facial swelling. (not sure about anywhere else, but defnitely the face). He said according to his journal there have only been 5 reported cases...and I was the 6th! I am to discontinue taking Benicar and to go see him. Besides the facial swelling I have had a problem the last 2 days with severe heartburn. I've never had anything like this before...kept me up all last night and has not really subsided today. Your message was helpful and I am wondering if you decided for sure whether the Benicar was responsible for your heatburn and acid reflux. | ||
