| Recently I have been experiencing extreme arm and some leg pains. I've been x-rayed, had an MRI, and blood tests for cancer, polymyalgia, Parkinson's, MS, RA, Lupus, and much more - all negative. My GYN doctor just told me to stop taking Actonel as he's had patients who developed severe arm and leg pain from using it. I wish someone would have warned me of this side effect sooner! I've just spend hours and hours, not to mention thousands of dollars, all of which could have avoided. | |||

| I took Actonel for about 8 months. My GYN only told me about the problem it can cause your stomach. Not long after taking it, I developed horrible leg cramps but I kept on taking it as I thought it would HELP the crramps> I am a 61 year post menopausal woman who was told by my GYn that I was losing bone mass not osteopenia yet but getting there. Following the leg cramps I started having bad muscle pain, my legs hurt and my feet hurt and I could hardly walk without pain...then I started to hurt all over my body. I drove my self to urgent care and they couldn't find anything wrong with me ....they did a chest xray and blood work. I believe it is the Actonel. I cannot believe doctors are not telling their patients that this is a possibility. I went off of it by myself...no one told me to and I called my pharmacist and asked him to check on side effects. He said it can cause bone pain, muscle pain, joint pain and arthralgia in 18 to 19 percent of patients and that it was UNFORGIVABLE that my doctor did not tell me this and that percentage was actually VERY HIGH compared to most drugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM FURIOUS! I wonder if some of us shouldn't get together and file a CLASS ACTION suit against the manufacturer of Actonel. I have been off of it for about 6 months now and the pain is less but still there and my life is not the same! I didn't hurt until I took Actonel. The pharmacist said it could take a long time to get out of my bones. I just hope it eventually gets better but he said there is nothing in the literature with the side effects that says it does NOT cause permanent damage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He also said that I should not take ANY of these drugs...not Fosomax, Evista or Actonel. I really think so many of these drug companies are out for the money and really do not do enough research on their products. So many drugs have been marketed knowing they could kill you...like Vioxx! Look how long it took to finally get the tobacco companies! Comments welcomed. | ||

| I took Actonel for almost 8 months. I had horrible leg cramps shortly after starting to take it but since my doctor only told me about the acid reflux prolblem, I kept taking it thinking I needed it to help the leg cramps and my bones. Over the next few months I ended up with horrible leg pain and feet pain and could hardly walk. A couple of days after that I hurt ALL OVER. I could barely drive myself to the Urgent Care center. The dotor did blood work and a chest xray but cold find nothing wrong. I took myself off the Actonel and got better but then the pain came back not as bad but steady. I called my pharmacist and asked him to tell me the side effects of Actonel and he said it causes joint pain, muscle pain, bone pain and arthralgia!! I was furious my doctor had not told me . My pharmacist told me that it could take a long time to get the ACtnoel out of my system and my bones and that there was nothing in the literature he had on Actonel that said it would NOT cause permanent damage!!!! He also said that it causeed these symtoms in 18to 19 percent of patients and that that was a very high percentage compared to most drugs!!! I am very upset. Doctors just don't seem to do research on these drugs and the drug companies don't always reveal all the side effects. I welcome your comments | ||
