My sister has been on Abilify for 6 mo. She can go for 3 days at a time without sleeping and then becomes psychotic for a day or so until she sleeps from exhaustion. It causes her to become extremely compulsive and to do things that are dangerous to herself. Also it covered up an underlying serious illness because she was always so high. She now has had a psychotic break and is in the hospital. Her medical Dr. took her off this drug and her Psychiatrist put her back on it and increased it. I am praying that she will be OK or that her medical Dr. makes an intervention.

MY daughter took herself off Zyprexa because of weight gain and was put on Abilify. The side effects she had were difficulty breathing, weight loss, stomach aches every day, hallucinating and started raging and cutting again. She went back on Zyprexa Zydis (disentigrating Tablets) and is doing great again. She's eating but its not as bad as regular Zyprexa.

I don't know how old your sister is but could she be using illegal drugs? he abilify can only do so much. Or abilify may not be the medication fort her. I have a daughter that sounds very much like your sister. Methamphetamins and cocaine can make the abilify not work. also they can cause the symptoms you are describing.

My son has had exactly the same side effects that you describe. He isn't at all interested in food, which is very odd because he has Prader-Willi syndrome, the syndrome which causes constant hunger and an insatiable appetite. His behavior is impossible to deal with. He talks non-stop, won't listen, and is up all night almost every night. Even sleeping pills and Ativan don't always help. His doctor says this will all get better. In the meantime, we are scared for him. His behavior is so off the charts that we are afraid that he might have a stroke.
