| I used one 7-day sample dose of Actonel given to me by my Dr. Within 7 hours of taking the drug, I thought I was paralyzed. The back pain was excruciating, and I could barely move. I was bedridden and it took almost a week to subside. I called P&G, who told me they had other complaints about back pain, and they don't know what chemical in the drug causes it. Please respond if you've had a similar experience. Thanks. | |||

| I took my first Actonel about 36 hours ago, and my experience is identical - almost paralyzing back pain and aching all around my rib cage, even affecting my breathing - What causes this??? I am an otherwise healthy 41 year old man and am taking the drug to offset bone loss due to prolonged medication for thyroid disease. I've read some pretty disturbing testimonials and think maybe my first Actonel is my last. Larry. | ||

| i just logged on to this website looking to see if anyone else was having back pain. I have been taking once a week Actonel for a year and didn't have any problems (after switching from Evista which gave me insomnia). At Christmas I started having back pain which is getting worse. I notice pain in my knees and elbows also. I wonder why it took so long to show up?? | ||

| Hello, HJope you are o.k. and that this drug "will" go through the system fairly well, as promised....hmmmmmm. This type of reaction was what I was "really afraid" would happen to me, as I had a "knee-jerk" (immed) reaction after taking "one" Lactaid tablet (at my husband's urging...so he could see me eat milk-product...that did not turn out...as the rest of the afternoon I was literally "curled in fetal-pos. in a chair." Since you are "obviously" sensitive to Actonel (for whatever reason)(((did your doc. do a blood-calcium test on you?)(((wonder if that is what the "back-pain" v.s. the "back-pressure" and "joint-pain" complaints are "Missing"?))) The "test results" "do" show that there may be complaints of back pain...it was not in "all" of the info.; but, you have to look at "lots" of diff. info-booklets, etc...."before" you "decide to take the plunge with any prescribed-med these days as most are not "overall" tested. These are all "new" drugs...what will the effects be in 5-25 years down the road, and...after the three years on Actonel (max?)(or longer?) then what? Will we 'Not' be able to "make our own bone?" Worrisome. C. | ||

| I, too am having terrible back pain from the Actonel. I have severe scoliosis and could barely get around. After taking the Actonel within three weeks I had such severe pain in my lower back that I stayed in bed most of the time. I knew something was in my back growing that wasn't normal. I went to my doctor who had exrays done on my lumbar and the results came back with large osteophytes on the endplates and my lumbar spine had moved farther to the left. The doctor that read the exrays was the same one who had done them previously, so he compared them. I now have to go to a spine institute this Thursday. I too am interested in finding an attorney. I don't think this drug is safe. Regards, Karen | ||

| I took actonel for 1 yr. and at first very weak bones and aches. but ,I take lots of pills so I did not pay attention. I have bad osteoporsis and tried all the other pills. After 6 months I had to stop the others. Now I stopped actonel for about 5 months money problems and now am back on it. I feel again week in my bones and my hands tingle and my legs swell. But my Dr. feels my bones will get worse if I don't take it and I try and exercise when I can.So I am trying to find out does Actonel rebuild the bone or just helps a little from it getting worse? | ||
