| I have been taking Amerge for a couple of years. I'm 37 and have been having migraines since I was a teenager. I have tried multiple migraine medications that did not work but the Amerge works for me without any side effects. I am limited to 8 pills per month and my share of the cost is $33.00 which is well worth it. My only problem is that every month when it is time to refill the medication, it is such a hassle between the pharmacy, my dr's office and the insurance company to get this medication refilled. My doctor is wonderful and has no problems processing the paperwork but he is tired of dealing with this every month just as much as I am. Another problem I have is that I usually need more than 8 pills a month. I get 1-2 migraines a month that come out of the blue. I always get menstrual migaines every month that start 1-2 days before the actual period and last through a 7 day cycle, sometimes needing to take 2 in a 24 hour period (I take the 2.5 mg strength Amerge). My doctor gives me samples when he has them available. If I don't have access to Amerge, it doesn't matter what else I take, I end up in the ER for a shot. Occasionally, even with Amerge I end up in the ER for a shot but that is usually because I took the medication too late (with only 8 a month, I have to try to stretch it out). Thankfully, I haven't had to go to the hospital in 8 months! Amerge really works for me when I can take it right when I'm getting a migraine. Even if it has long term side effects, I'd rather live a quality life now than a longer life with more pain. |
