| I started taking Abilify as a mood stabilizer and it was a disaster! I developed akathisia. I couldn't sit still for a second, and if I tried, my muscles felt like they would burst. I developed tardive dyskinesia and my left hand started moving involuntarily and that side effect ended up being permanent. I still have it a year after going off the medication. Eventually I started running a fever with a racing pulse every time I took the medication and had to stop it. I had been reluctant to stop this medication because it was helping my treatment-resistant depression. I discovered that I am dopamine-deficient which is why all the classical antidepressants haven't worked for me and why I had all the side effects. Now I'm taking Mirapex and it works great! I don't know why any doctor would prescribe this medication to someone who has depression that is not due to bipolar disorder. If you are taking it for depression and are experiencing significant side effects, consider a different medication, such as Cymbalta, an antidepressant that increases dopamine instead of decreasing it.
