Doesn't anyone who has a position in the manufacture and sale of ACTONEL read these comments??? I can't believe there isn't some reply -to all the negativity- from Procter and Gamble or Aventis Pharmaceuticals. Inc.

PatriciaActonel, 35 mg.September 17th, 2003
I've been taking Actonel, 35 mg. for about seven months and have had a series of joint pains, some really severe. My wrist was very swollen, I thought I had hit it on something and it took several weeks to get back to normal size. Also elbow pain, a node in the joint at the base of my thumb, an extremely sore toe joint. I sound like a hypochondriac but all these aches and pains have come on since I've been taking Actonel.

Hi, I'm from Austria and am happy I found this chat page. Did you check your problems with a specialist? I've been taking Actonel for nearly 5 months now, and have pains in my feet (toes and heels). I have an appointment with a specialist in a couple of weeks to discuss this problem. Let me know, though, if you have seen a specialist and what the advice was. By the way, 17th September 2003 is a long time since you submitted your comments, so how are you feeling now?

I have been taking only 5mg of Actonel a day for about 1 1/2 years. The pain developed slowly so I didn't connect the two until recently when I found the contra-indications on a sheet of paper I was about to toss. (My doc had been doing blood tests for arthritis.) I have sore feet, big toe pain, elbow pain, knee pain and pain in the quardraceps muscles. My question is how long will it take the pain to subside once I stop taking the med?

Christystrange leg sensationDecember 3rd, 2005
Hello (this is long...but sensations with this drug found below; 50plus, fell in '98, asked for hip x-ray "then," finally got one in '04. (yeah "HMO") The ankle was also "bad" and "really" wanted that x-ray (didn't meet all 14-points to get that , either...now it cricks and creaks and clacks...still wear an air-cast now and then. Recently, finally, begged for x-ray and DEXA (DXA) scan...got both! Well, my chirop. said he "hadn't" seen one of the dxas that "didn't" show some "severe osteoporosis" gotta wonder. I "did" get some ultrasound tx...which "did" help. Couldn't find anything negative on the Actonel (tried before I took the first one), the p.caredoc's choice...took total of two, now. After first one...noted swelling within left leg. The "husband" noted my "old, old" injury complaints were bothering me...and, have to admit, "yes" I was rubbing and stretching those places, that had "not" bothered me for years. Noted pressure behind left eye, later first week behind "both" eyes; second week...pressure behind right eye...continued lower left leg "fullness" and feels swollen...though does not "look" it. Noted stiffness in right hand end fingers...as I play the piano...had not ever been a problem before. "Hip" which was the "reason" I went in..has not been better as far as "circulation" which was a concern. Overall...there is a "pervasive feeling" of "not right here," and dont' wish to take any more of the Actonel. Going to "continue" to search out such naturals as horsetail (alreay some in my hair, skin and nails formula). Admittedly, I don't sleep well, unless I get tons and tons of exercise (can't with the hip-problem when it is bothersome)...however, with the Actonel...seems I am awake-all nite (that may just be my compatibility...as I am "very" sensitive to anything and usually take only a children's dose of "anything" OTC. Then, there is the constip.; we do high fiber, low-carb diet "now," and don't see increasing fiber anymore. We drink plenty of liq's and don't see increasing to more liqs. The eye-pressure-aspect alone, has my body saying..."heh, what are you doing to me, now?" Last night, an actual "sharp pain" stabbed the right eye...don't like the feel of this (if that is what may have caused it). The groin area which I "complained about circulation" is the same, if not worse...and, took aspirin w/caffeine this a.m....even though said "no asp" as I need to get my circ. going again. Also, noted, the outside look adn feel of my general skin-condition...feels weird...different sensation...try it yourself...pinch it! Does it feel the same, as without the Actonel? After the first pill, skin had a strange "cast" (but, then I am allergic to everything, and don't use cosmetics, so "expected" some type of allergic-showing. On B.P.: The doc's office read my blood pressure "high" and so did Shopko-meter ("real" high as then we went to local grocery store..and it was only 5 points high...as we also had a tech. read "hers" and "hers" (like mine) runs "low." (consistent ratings when donating...over years...so feel b.p. is a "stable.") Able to "cut caffeine, but working on finding "lite" and "low carb" drinks...as soda is only vice...have been icing to-the-max and "watering it down" gradually...has saved us money on the soda bill. Almost $20.00 for 4 meds in one pack, is outrageous for something that will be prescribed for (how many?) women...that alone with the fact that there is nothing that "comes up" negative about it, (found this site)...makes one wonder all-the-more! Note: one Canadian pharm. noted on line, 3 (paks?) for $30.some...assume plus s&handling. Stopping this drug. Christy.

I have been on Actonel for about three months. I believe that people do NOT pay attention to their aches and pains from prescriptions. I have extreme muscle spasms in my leg just above my knee and it produces breath-taking pain from time to time. I am calling my doctor and asking to get off of this prescription. I have also tried Zetia, Zocor.Lipitor: all for lowering chloresterol and every one of them has caused muscle burning pains. I told the doctor that I was stopping these statins and would try to eat the right things to lower chloresterol instead. I would like to hear other experiences in these medicines.
