I only took Chantix for a month, but since then, all food has tasted differently.
I told my doctor but he didn't believe me since that wasn't listed as one of the side effects, so he has prescribed prednisone to perk up my appetite.
I'll bet down the road, researchers will find that this is just one of the many many bad side effects of Chantix.

I took the first pack of Chantix as directed, then upon taking the second weeks worth, started feeling like I was having panic attacks, or like my heart was beating too fast, I checked my pulse which was between 75-85, I listened to my heart and could tell the rhythm was off, sounded like it was skipping a beat. I went to the Dr and he did an EKG and decided to do a 24 hour monitor to see what was going on. Will know more tomorrow, but I swear, it has got to be from this drug. No other meds or lifestyle changes since this started happening.

Griffith Works for me May 12th, 2008 Rating: Not Rated
I have been on Chantix since November 5, 2007. I quit smoking entirely on November 13th and haven't smoked since. In the beginning, I did have the problem with nausea. I learned that as long as I drank a whole glass of water with the pill, I was fine. Around the second month on it now, I notice panic attacks. I suffer from anxiety and panic disorder anyway, so it's hard to tell if I'm having them more because of the medication. I haven't gained any weight, but I haven't lost any either. I haven't had any change in the way food tastes. My dreams have become more vivid, but not bothersome. I'm not having nightmares.
It has been working for me. I have been smoking for over 15 years and have tried many ways to quit. Cold turkey, patch, gum, losenges, Wellbutrin, etc. This medication is the only thing that worked for this long. SO far, I have no major complaints. Everyone reacts to meds differently, so just remember, if you don't like the way you feel, talk to your doctor.

I am on my 11th day of Chantix. 37 yrs old. Dreams are more vivid, but no nightmares. Nausea is horrible no matter if I eat/drink beforehand or not. Don't know if this has anything to do with anything, but my right eye's vision is blurry now. Am more irritable, and still smoking. Not as much though. This nausea is really getting to me.

I started taking Chantix on 1/10/08 and stopped taking it on 1/18/08. I experienced the expected nausea, headache and gas but I also experienced marked shortness of breath, vertigo, debilitating muscle/joint pain and stiffness in my neck, shoulders, and back. I haven't read where many people have had these same side effects but those who have, still experience these problems long after stopping the drug. I know many people who have successfully quit taking this med and experienced minor side effects. Unfortuntely, it doesn't look like I'm one of those people. It's very disappointing!
My advice to anyone considering Chantix, pay very close attention to how you feel before starting the meds and throughout the process. If something feels "wrong" discontinue and find another method. Chantix hasn't been around for very long and we really don't know what the future holds. BTW.........I'm breathing fine and the pain in my muscles/joints has subsided.

Started Chantix, esily got through the initial tapering higher dose, with minimal nausea and flatulence. Once I was on the highest dose for 6 days... I went crazy. Depression, severe insomnia, aniety attacks, irritability and easily angered. I saw my doctor today and she siad it may take another 3-5 days to get it out of mysymtem. I stopped taking it on 01/28/08. She gave me Ativan for the anxiety attacks and Lunesta for sleep and took me off work the rest of the week as I am off the wall. I threw the Chantix out, but did save a paper just in case.

I had the most fightening experience of my life with this drug!!!! I had SEVERE PANIC ATTACKS...which lead me to all of my doctors including a therapist becuase I didn't know what was happening to me. I also was put on Ativan and Lexapro. I missed alot of work (which is highly unusual for me) but had to do it. I slept 16 hours a day for a week! I think Chantix should be taken off the market immediatly! Some people that are experiencing these symptons are probably not associating their symptons with this drug which is very dangerous. I have a friend that has a sister in the mental health industry and a docotr that she knows said he has a friend who had to spend two days in a mental health faciltiy due to this drug. I had never experienced a panic attack before taking this drug, this is why i did not know what was happening to me.
If you know anyone that is thinking about taking this drug please share your experience and have them do research on it beofe taking it. I experienced Dehydration as well.

I can't believe this horrific drug is on the market and being prescribed by doctors. If smoking doesn't kill you maybe this drug will - by suicide!!!!!!!!

Anonymous Horrible drug May 12th, 2008 Rating: Not Rated
I have taken myself off of the chantix after 2 weeks and 1 day on it and 8 days smoke free. I have been very nauseated and only getting worse, terrible stomach pain, horrible headaches, and it just sucks. Those I could deal with if it meant forever smoke free, but the side effects that are not worth it to me are the severe night mares, the vivid dreams to where I can not distinguish between being awake or not, the chest pain, the lack of concern for life, and "calm" suicidal thoughts (random thought of dying at my own hands is not normal, especially for no reason.)

Now I read about people who have died, had heart attacks and strokes, I mean what the heck. I was not warned about any of this.

bwolf Chantix quit smoking drug, HELL ON EARTH. May 12th, 2008 Rating: Not Rated
I started taking chantix (a quit smoking drug) about a month ago, at first it looked like this was the ticket, I went from a pack a day to nothing in 1 week, cool huh? Then it hit me.
It started with a low level irritated feeling then went to extreme agitation to border line homicidal thoughts, ended up at suicidal.
I have never had anything that has screwed up my thought process like this in my entire life.
I stopped taking it about a week ago but still my brain hasn’t recovered, today I contemplated checking myself into a psyche ward as 1 minute I’m fine the next I have overwhelming thoughts of the most severe agitation you could ever imagine.
This drug is in my estimation very dangerous, you want to feel HELL take it.
Nothing on this earth is worth what chantix has made me feel, I hate the fact that a substance has made me feel this way, for what it’s worth don’t take this drug, this is by far the worse ride I have ever been on and I can’t wait till it’s out of my system, I pray that it doesn’t have permanent effects.
Buyer BEWARE.

Emily Panic Attacks May 12th, 2008 Rating: Not Rated
Just started taking Chantix 4 days ago. Every night I've had vivid, but not bothersome dreams. Little bit of nausea, but nothing worth mentioning. Until last night, I had no complaints. After I laid down for bed, about 20 minutes later, I had overwhelming anxiety. It turned into a full blown attack about a half hour later. I do have a history of anxiety, but haven't had an attack in over 2 years. So, unfortunately still smoking.

my doctor recommended chantix to me, but after the first week i stopped it. I am a diabetic and it was really throwing my sugar off balance, was having irritability problems and problems sleeping, and fuzzy-headed. I would suggest to anyone taking this to watch out for things that wasn't there before. I stopped taking it, so did my grandson. I think it was a rip-off money-wise from the start. Doctors, and makers of the pill get rich because you can't return the unused portion. Just $200 poorer now than before and still smoking.

The headache and muscle tension in my neck and shoulders is insane,I'm taking motrin for that but it's not helping, the joint pain in my legs back and arms is freaking me out too-some people have ended up with rhuematoid arthritis after taking chantix.I've only been taking it for 9 days, cigarettes taste like crap and I'm smoking less but I'm not sure it's worth it...
