About Diprivan

Diprivan is used for:

Starting or maintaining anesthesia during certain surgeries, tests, or procedures. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Diprivan is a general anesthetic. It is unknown exactly how Diprivan works.

Side Effects of Diprivan

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

  • Change in mood or emotions;
  • dizziness;
  • drowsiness;
  • lack of coordination.
Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:
  • Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue);
  • cough;
  • feeling faint;
  • itching;
  • pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site;
  • wheezing.

Who Should Not Take Diprivan

Do NOT use Diprivan if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Diprivan
  • you are allergic to eggs, egg products, soybeans, or soy products

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Interactions with Diprivan

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Diprivan . Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

  • Benzodiazepines (eg, alprazolam), narcotic pain relievers (eg, morphine), or other sedatives (eg, chloral hydrate) because they may increase the risk of Diprivan's side effects
