can strattera affect your menstral cycle?

I haven't had my period for some time now and it's worrying me. I'm on 60 m/g a day

Bad Side Effects-Straterra

This is my 6th day on Straterra, I'm 28 yrs old, and recently diagnosed w/ adhd. However, I was diagnosed when I was 6 however my parents didnt believe in medicating at that time. The strattera was given b/c it would not cause sleeplessness, however the other side effects are terrible. I started the first 3 days on 25mg, and the following 60mg (I'm 119lbs, 5'5") I am nauseaus every morning even when taken with food. I immediately have to lie down b/c of the nauseau, exhaustion and chills, as well as my heart pounding. After that ends about 30-45 min later, I get extrememly moody, agitated and very short tempered. I also feel sad like I want to cry every minute, I have never been sad or depressed before this medication. I don't think Ive noticed any improvements in concentration, I just feel more tired and lethargic, I much more enjoyed my hyperness than this sad, lazey state. I have a 24 days left in my prescription bottle and am wondering if these effects will diminish by then or if I should call it quits already. I have 2 children and a husband and it's not fair for me to be so angry and moody for no reason. Please let me know if any of you have had the go away in the course of a month or so?

Our 7 year has been on Strattera for about 2 weeks. The first week,
he was on 18mg for the first four days and showed a lor of improvement. His teacher really
noted a positive change in the classroom. I also noted a difference
for the better. He was even eating more than usual.

Our son's ped. increased his dosage to 25mg from the fifth day to now.
We have noticed a negative side of him. He seems very edgy, angry, and very moody. He seems to be jumpy and almost back to where he was before he
took the med. My question is : Is this dosage of 25 mg. over-medicated
for my son. He weighs 45 pounds.

strattera and suicide

My 16 year old is a wonderfully happy and bright child, however unfocused and forgetful in school. He began his 4th ADD medication Strattera after the first 3, Addoral, Concerta and Focalin made him very upset, anxious and emotional a couple weeks after going on them. After the first 2 medications did not show a clear improvement and instead showed intolerable side-effects, I wanted to accept lifes imperfections and just manage our child through his developmental stages medication-free.My husband wanted a "magic bullet", although I don't blame him because the doctors and the advertisements and literature on these drugs make you question why any parent would put up with any ill behavior when you can simply take a pill!

After 3 weeks on Strattera, and yet another emotional meltdown where my child is feeling that he hatedhimself and his life (he never felt this way prior to trying any ADD medication) 1 week after stopping the medication 80mg cold turkey cause he refused to take anymore, my son tried to take his own life. Parents out there PLEASE PROCEED CAUTIOUSLY WHEN YOU PUT YOUR CHILD ON THESE MEDICATIONS. WE LIVE IN NYC HAVE BEEN AT THE BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST DOCTORS IN THE FIELD FOR THIS SUBJECT MATTER. THIS IS ALL UNCHARTED WATERS HERE FOR THE DOCTORS. THE DOCTORS AND THE DRUG COMPANIES MAKE YOU BELIEVE THAT THERE ARE SIMPLE SOLUTIONS TO WHAT BASICALLY ARE COMPLEX PROBLEMS THAT GET RESOLVED OVER THE LIFE OF A CHILD.
This week I almost lost my childs life.

I am appauled when I read that parents have 6 year old children on these medications. I think that parentsould take the medication themselves first and see just how horrible these drugs can make one feel. If anyone would like to join me in a group to make other parents aware just how dangerous these drugs can be please e-mail me at tc.ts@verizon.net. We live in a society where we want instant results. Parents, myself included resist taking the time to really listen to what is going on out there. Believe me, if I had reseached this drug and taken the time to question and heard that there are kids who have been happy and healthy but just not living up to their academic potential, that take a drug and in 3 weeks try to take their own life????????? Our children are being used as guinea pigs for the doctors and the drug companies. It is simply too easy to just give your child a pill.

I know there are people out there that are being helped by these drugs. However, there are many other children who are sleeping when they should be awake, not hungry when the should be eating, feeling anxious when they could be feeling happy, and just a general turning their world upside down.
There are serious potential side effects here and the truth about these drugs needs to come out. I almost lost my sons life this week and I need to tell his story. Please e-mail me at tc.ts@verizon.net

progressing RP

my daughter has an eye disease called retinitis pigmentosa and she is in desperate need for being on a medicacation for her adhd . her doctors are concerned that it could hurt or progress the eye condition. i understand there is limited testing involving this concept but i'm tring every possible route to get the information needed to help her not hurt her.

Strattera

My son is 7. We choose Strattera because the Dr. said others could "unmask" ticks. He was already picking his nose so much his friends were backing off and saying he was gross. In case this was his "tick" we wanted to stay clear.
We started in the evening on 10mg. The morning after his head hurt. By the afternoon his fever was 103. The flu is going around and poor guy not only had it but he also had all the side effects. We couldn't tell which was which, vomiting, fatigue were also flu symptoms.
We were supposed to go up to 18mgs. after 4 days, so we did. He was so angry, violent, impulsive and rude. It scared me, so I took him into Urgent Care to make sure his "flu" didn't turn into something else. While there, I told the Dr. about what we were doing with Stattera. He said when your bodies temperature rises you metabolize faster. He thought that was the reason for the "overdose" symptoms. I hope so. Today was day 3 of 18mgs and day 7 altogether. Two days ago, I ask if he would like to read. He said yes. I was surprised because as a second grader his reading level is first grade. He doesn't like to read. It's difficult for him to get through a page. But, he read! He read the whole book and seemed to enjoy it. I had to hide behind him because I couldn't help but cry.
I think this Strattera will work for us, but right now something is wrong. He is too tired and has a temper. I'm hoping it's the dose level and flu. He is not eating. Time will tell but I have a feeling he will need a low dose. I would love to hear more success stories, but I am realistic too.

ARGH

Hi, I am 39 years old and began taking strattera only two days ago. The first day I felt like I was really going fast, I had trouble eating anthing and getting to sleep. Today I feel almost the total opposite, really tired and nausea is mild.. I hope these symptoms don't last long!

Children under 3 Years

We have had our 3 year old son on Strattera and has been working great for the last 12 weeks. As soon as we took him off it we noticed that he was back to his usual over active bouncing off walls self! We have been reccommended to go back on it for another period. However, after reading some of the side effects (which we have not encountered), i am now concerned about the long term effects. Especially on children at the age of 3. I cant seem to find anything for this age group. I need help before making a decision one way or another. Further my son has only one Kidney and so i am really concerned long term. My Pediatrician has said nothing to worry about.
Anyone can help?

strattera

My son just began taking strattera three days ago and in that time span he has become lethargic, has headaches, at times unresponsive, decrease in his communication with others. He is also on risperadol .5 mg twice a day as well. his diagnoses is PDD and ADHD. I hope these symptoms get less pronounced in the near future. also, my son is 6 yrs old, 44lbs, and on 25mg of the strattera.

STRATTERA

Does anyone have any information about when Strattera will be available in Australia? I have tried asking TGA- no one seems to know anything....dexamphetamine is better than nothing but not really effective enough as far as attention/concentration goes...

My son has been on Strattera for about a year now. The doctor has had to take him from 25 mg, to an 18mg. In which it works for a while then after several months it is like his body is immuned to it and he becomes tired, not active (which is very unusual), also he does not eat well. My child is already thin enough. I am going to go to the doctors again and try the 10mg, I really hope this will work. I am tired and I am sure my child is tired of having to switch medictions. It's like he is some kind of Guinea Pig.

Changed my life

Since the age of five I have been in and out of one therapists office into anothers at the request of my parents and by myself later in life. I was an poor to sometimes average student throughout my twelve years in public education. Upon graduating high school I did not venture directly into college. However, when I did start my higher education the same patterns of not passing and failing returned quickly. I have worked for pharmacies for over 6 years now and last October (2003) I heard about the new non-controlled ADD drug, STRATTERA. Not long after the drug become commercially available I asked that my family physician to let me try the medication. Well within the last 5 months of being treated with Strattera I have pulled a GPA if 1.5 to a near 3.5 average. The change in my attitude, restlessness, study ability, and focus have been noticable to people of whom I have only met once before. I did not want to try or was ever diagnosed for ADD and the stimulant drugs that were previously available. When this drug came out I thought that it wouldnt hurt to try it. So at 22 years of age an almost sophmore in college the changes in my life now give me hope for the future.

Strattera

My 18 yr old son just started taking strattera. He is experiencing some nausea but has also had periods of tingling throughout different parts of his body. Has anyone had this happen? I have not read this as being a documented side effect. He is taking 60mg and is 5'10" weighing 120 lbs.

I am a 23-f and on 60mg of strattera for the last 4 months. I am having a hard time determining its effectiveness on my organization and concentration. I dont notice a significant difference, just slightly. Or is it that I dont remember how I felt and thought before straterra? Or do I really not even have add? I also get ALOT of headaches. Does it matter if you take it at night or in the a.m.? Please email me!

Not working

We have a 6yo boy who weighs 45lbs. Throughout daycare, we stuck to our guns about no meds, even when we were kicked out of 7 daycares in 6 months. Then kindergarten started and the first 9 weeks showed him as failing. His teacher called daily and he was in the principals office each day. He came home and said "I hate myself". That was it... We gave in, called the doctor and said we'd try the Adderal. We used time release Adderal. It helped him in class (he quit hurting children, concentrated on his work, listened to the teacher, sat in his chair) but for the entire year he did not gain 1 ounce or height and had trouble sleeping at night. We took him off for the summer and voila, he gained 5lbs and grew an inch. We decided that there was nothing that could make us put him back on the meds. One week into 1st grade, 6 phone calls from the principle, 2 parent teacher conferences and a write up from the after school program later, and we were in the pediatricians office asking about Strattera. She put him on 25mg of Stattera, 2 1/2 weeks ago. Since then, he has been kicked out of his one after school program (he has to be there just 1/2 hour per day), been written up at his new one, and we've had numerous phone calls and emails from the school. His behaviour has not improved one iota. Have we given Stattera enough time to start working? If Stattera isn't for us, then what is? We need help, please!

Adderall Vs Straterra

Ive been on Adderall for 3 years taking 50-60mg a day. My doctor recently put me on Straterra, however, Im on day 2 and dont feel sh1t when it comes to curing the ADD. Im an Engineering Consultant and have a major training session that I have to give on Monday this comming week and am faced with a real dilemma.

I still have enough of the old Adderall to get me through the week, however, I dont know if I should quit the Adderall and stick with the Straterra. This is a job-threatening situation and Im about to go tell my doctor to put me back on the Adderall.

I realize that Straterra is not instantanious, however, I cant sit around for 2 weeks for results. I need it now, as my job depends on it. Any suggestions on maybe combining a lower dosage of Adderall with Straterra or any other drugs to treat the ADD ?
