About Temodar

Temodar is used to treat a form of brain cancer (anaplastic astrocytoma) in adults whose disease progressed after radiation therapy and chemotherapy with nitrosoureas and procarbazine, drugs commonly used to treat brain cancers.

Temodar is used to treat adults newly diagnosed with a form of brain cancer (glioblastoma multiforme) while also being treated with radiotherapy and then used as a maintenance treatment.

At this time, it is not known whether Temodar will improve symptoms, keep the disease from getting worse, or help patients live longer.

Precautions for Temodar

Read the patient information that comes with Temodar before you start taking it and every time you renew your prescription in case the information has been updated.

Temodar can cause a decrease in the body’s ability to produce bone marrow (myelosuppression), which is needed to form several components of the blood. Your doctor will check you for this condition while you are being treated with Temodar.

If you have a history of severe liver or kidney problems your doctor will evaluate and decide if Temodar is right for you.

Because Temodar can cause birth defects, women should avoid becoming pregnant and stop breast-feeding a baby and nursing while taking Temodar. Tell your healthcare provider if you are already pregnant or are breast-feeding. Men and women taking Temodar should use effective birth control.

Keep this medicine away from children and pets.

What should I tell my doctor or healthcare provider?

Because certain other medications can interact with Temodar, review all medications that you are taking with your healthcare provider, including those that you take without a prescription.

Because Temodar can cause birth defects, women should avoid becoming pregnant and stop breast-feeding a baby and nursing while taking Temodar. Tell your healthcare provider if you are already pregnant or are breast-feeding. Men and women taking Temodar should use effective birth control.

Vomiting one week after first round of Temedar

My husband is using Temodar for the second time for brain tumor. Has anyone ever had the vomiting a week after treatment?

No Subject

My husband has been on temodar for 6 months now and it has caused major memory loss and disorientation. It does seem to have retarded regrowth of the GBM tumor though. T

is there any proof that temodar may be used to treat an oligodendriglioma?

I have sever back pains, especially lower back, itching, hard to fall asleep and loss of appetite. Taking Temodar for nausea.

Anyone else experience these side effects? My dosage is 140 mg, 30 straight days with 2 week breaks.

I just started my second cycle of Temodar, just had my second brain surgery for a mixed glioma. The first nights nausea was so bad
that I have pools of blood in my eyes right now from the pressure of violent vomiting. Zofiran seems to help this, but it was the same way during my first cycle. That first night is a killer!

My father is being treated with Temodar for leiomyosarcoma in his neck (possibly caused by the radiation he received for lung cancer 5 years ago...when he also received chemo). Any comments, or suggestions, etc.?

temodar linked to lukemia

My Son has been on Temodar for almost a year. It was supposed to Be a 2 - 2 1/2 year treatment but was stopped because It was recently found that temodar may cause Lukemia. and a stronger possibility because he has NF type 1. For how long will this be a risk factor after stopping treatment?

I used Temodar for my 2"x2"x3" anaplastic astrocytoma tumor. Surgery first (100% removal). We combined radiation with the Temodar, intending to take the breaks (30 days on, then 2 weeks off) when they came out with the study saying just keep on it. I had regular CT's (can't do MRI's), finally after 6 months had a PET and found no live cancer cells! Yea! Six month Temodar treatment, but I can't remember length on radition treatment (6 weeks, daily?)

Since the tumor was Stage III, we elected to continue the Temodar for 6 more months. We got 2 months into the elective use and I developed a very serious case of double pneumonia, so ICU, respirator and a drug induced coma for 4 days. Result of the life-saving medical treatment was near total atropy of leg muscles and I couldn't walk - inpatient rehab needed for 2 weeks. I had to use a walker and wheelchair, but I'm doing well now, almost 2 months to the day after my health event.

"They" say that the form of pneumonia that I had is the one that kills most of the AIDS patients - and that many chemo (not necessarily just Temodar patients) get it also because of the depleted immune system. I know very little beyond this, but I am torqued because that was supposed to be a wonderful thing about this drug that it does not destroy the immune system.

But the good news is, tumor is gone!

my partner's experience with Temodar

My partner has had 2 cycles of Temodar.
He has experienced some improvements:
he is able to speak sentences now - the marjority of the time (before he had great difficulty even saying single words and very rarely could express himself in sentences)
he is able to use his right hand for daily activities (feeding, brushing teeth, using some hand tools)
he is more lucid and what I call 'clear eyed'.

I don't know if this is due to the Temodar...or for a variety of other reasons. I 'think and believe' that the Temodar is helping.

I have only been on Temodar for a few weeks and so far I feel pretty crappy. I feel like I must be anemic because if I don't eat I get very dizzy. I also have some anxiety.
