Default autistic son on Risperdal

My 14 year old son who has moderate autism has been on Risperdal for
7 years now. Dr. Bennett Leventhal from U of Chicago prescribed it.
His speech greatly improved and doctor and I both agree that the drug
slowed his brain down so that he was able to learn more and focus in
to what we were trying so hard to teach him. I have nothing but praise
for the drug and believe it is key to where we are now with regards
to his independence and his interest in learning new things and
wanting to work hard at his jobs that he does at home and out in the
community. The drug never made him a zombie like I have heard alot
of parents being fearful of their children becoming on these anti
pyschotic drugs. So give it a chance. If it's not the right drug for
your child you will know pretty much tight away and it will always be
your choice as the parent to take him off the drug.
