Default trileptal

My 6 yr old son was just dx with simple partial seizures this week and was put on trileptal 2.5 ml 2x day. His are very mild and last only a few seconds. He is fully conscious when he has an episode. The only area affected is his ability to speak words. I am a bit concerend b/c instead of making the seizures stop, the meds increased the amount he had but made the duration shorter. Has this happened to anyone else? Also are there any children that have had success with trileptal for simple partial?
