Default Xopenex and Pulmicort

My daughter is 6 years old and has Asthma and is on a daily regimen of Advir. However, a recent flair up caused us to treat with Xopenex and Pulmicort. We were once told that we should not mix, but rather use one then the other using the nebulizer. Which one should we use first? Pulmicort is a steroid type drug and Xopenex opens the airways...shouldn't we then use Xopenex first. My wife and I have differing opinions.

My daughter is 9 and has been taking Advair, since she was 6 or 7. When the asthma starts attacking her airways, we need to add Xopenex and Pulmicort to control the situation. We immediately stop taking the advair when we're using the Pulmicort then once she's off of the Pulmicort, we start the advair up again. She takes Pulmicort and Xopenex in the a.m. and p.m. and xopenex every three to 4 hours throughout the day for 5 days. Then it's back to her regimin of Advair (a.m & p.m.), astelin (a.m. & p.m.), singular (p.m.) and rhinocort a.m. & p.m. as needed. Good luck.
