Tourette's & Abilify

My 8 year old daughter has recently been diagnosed with Tourettes. She has been taking Guanfacine (Tenex) since February and has a tremendous weight gain. While it has help her tics somewhat they are still evident. I go back to see the doctor on Monday and was wondering what types of medications other children her age have experienced. I read all of these comments and while it scares me I also know everyone reacts to medications differently. Anyone with children that have Tourettes that would be interested in discussing their experiences and vice versa please contact me via email. Thanks!

My daughter has Tourettes and is currrently talking 100mg of Topamax which is working VERY WELL for her...she has been on several other meds in the past...up to 5 different pills aday and now she is down to just 1....tourettes used to control her life but she is beating it...she has motor tourettes and she jokes bout it...says when she starts twitching she is a rock star altho she would sometimes like to have verbal tourettes so she can cuz some1 out and feel that she wont get in trouble cuz of the tourettes...lol...we have had a tough and long 10 yrs coping w/tourettes but now that we have it under control she can live a normal life...

im 23. i hav had this & MANY other things since i can remember. adhd, ocd, & depression. i am now discovering that i might hav a borderline personality & paranoia. i took prozac & clonadine (i cant remember how to spell it) for around 3 yrs. it helped me a lot!! my mom also helped me a lot too! meditation did as well. i cant remember exactly how i did it but now NOBODY notices it! not even doctors! i still hav tics, they r just less noticable. i transformed them into normal expressions. i was without them for what seemed like a year. i prob just did them in my room after school.

now im struggling with my anxiety, paranoia, & the other things. im currently on 20 mgs of Geodon. i dont really think its strong enough. it helps tho.

i wish u 2 a LOT of luck!! & i really do hope that their lives become a LOT easier! being a child with that was horrable for me. children can be SOOO mean! plus me being moody didnt help the cituation! i wish u & ur daughters well! :-)
