Default Aciphex

I have been taking 40mg Aciphex for 1 month for suspected GERD. 20mg just doesn't work for me. The heartburn pain is daily and overwhelming. I just had an endoscopy that showed absolutely nothing wrong. The GI dr. blew me off and said there was no evidence of reflux and referred me back to my primary physician. I'm happy there's no damage...BUT...I still have daily heartburn pain. I've added 225mg. Zantac to my daily meds. The heartburn is better but still there and if I try to go down to 20mg. it returns as strong as ever. I use antacids daily which help but the liquid antacids give me diarrhea. I'm frustrated.

I went to a specialist a year ago and had an endoscopy. No damage was found and I too was referred back to my physician. A year later, suffering from the same symptoms I found a new specialist. The endoscopy this year showed ulcerations and damage that will take a long time to heal. If you your not felling a lot better soon, take the test again!

Your story is a common one. A barium swallow doesn't always show the reflux and there may not be visable damage to your GI track, to see with an endocopy, for some time. You are taking high doses of both ACIPHEX and ZANTAC, I would suggest that you review your diet and make dietary changes to try and reduce the medication doses. Most of the triggers are known but may not be same for each individual, trial and error with foods/drinks and attention to your life stress is helpful. I found Yoga and dietary changes were a great help to me.
