Default Low Lantus Dose

Hello everyone,

I am a type 1 diabetic, diagnosed at age 8, currently 36 years old. I have been on Lantus for 3 years now and have had a continuing struggle to find a dose that doesn't cause frequent low BG levels throughout the day. I am currently using 13 units taken once daily at 2 p.m. I'm curious why my dose is so low? I've had a string of arguments with a longer string of doctors concerning this very topic. My doctors have always pushed me to take a dose in the 30-40 unit range which causes low BG after low BG. Is my base metabolic rate just extremely low? Any theories on why I need so little Lantus would help immensely. Thanks!
