Default Zelnorm

I am a 65 year old women with colonic inertia and IBS. I've been taking Zelnorm since the end of July, 2003, and find it works very well. I've had some discomfort from gas, etc, but I've always had discomfort in my constipated state. I've taken laxatives for years and found that taking senna laxatives on a regular basis caused my colonic inertia [no motility in the colon]. In all of my dealing with constipation I've found that there is no substitute for drinking lots of water with the pills and in between doses. The bowel can not produce a soft stool if it does not have the moisture to facilitate that movement. It may be that many are having difficulties with the Zelnorm because it is not diluted in their systems by way of adequate liquid. My guess is that Dr's are not giving all the info necessary when prescribing the Zelnorm. Much water intake is essential and to say you 'don't like water' therefore you don't drink enough is a big mistake. You can't expect the Zelnorm to work if you don't give it what it needs to be successful.

Default Drinking water with zelnorm

That is a really good point. Zelnorm stimulates the bowel to function more normally... but we have to do our part too. We cannot just sit back and expect the pill to do all the work.
