![]() Hello all, I am new here but just to say hello. I have been on Lantus for almost a year now started out real low 30 units a day. And just went and seen the Endo last week what a disappointment that was. I had been taking Lantus 80 units in the am and 90 in the pm. Well, he increased it to 100 in the am and 100 in the pm. I have severe spinal stenosis and fibro. In one week my food intake has gone crazy its like i am craving food. I can't get enough and the numbness in my left leg is enough to drive me nuts. I can't sleep because I can't get comfortable. And the weight gain I have gained almost 10 lbs in one week. ![]() ![]() |

Hello everyone,
I am a type 1 diabetic, diagnosed at age 8, currently 36 years old. I have been on Lantus for 3 years now and have had a continuing struggle to find a dose that doesn't cause frequent low BG levels throughout the day. I am currently using 13 units taken once daily at 2 p.m. I'm curious why my dose is so low? I've had a string of arguments with a longer string of doctors concerning this very topic. My doctors have always pushed me to take a dose in the 30-40 unit range which causes low BG after low BG. Is my base metabolic rate just extremely low? Any theories on why I need so little Lantus would help immensely. Thanks! |

If you are taking 100 units of Lantus twice a day that is nuts! You have to stop eating despite "feeling" hungry. You can train your body. If you must eat go low to no carbs. I have had Type 1 for 38 years and still have everything in tact, 20/20 vision. Teach yourself to eat less. Exercise. That is the only way to fight back. Period, dot. No discussion. It seems like an overwhelming thing but don't look to do things "forever" just do it now. Live in the moment and you can win. Stay positive- But trust me, 200 units of Lantus is a massive amount. If you are overweight, try to lose 3 pounds. Once you do that, aim for 2. Then 2. Soon you will see results and feel better. Start off by walking for 10 minutes. Do that a few times a week. Once you can do that without any real effort, go for 12 minutes. Thats all. Gradually get yourself in shape. It is not easy but once you do you will feel a world better.
